Going into this I did not know who the author was. This book is funny and has some fun travel tips.

A collection of essays that read like travelogues or journal entries, this was an entertaining and, at times neurotic, look at Gary’s travel experiences. As someone who is also particular with certain aspects of traveling, I definitely could relate to some of his frustrations as well as enjoyed his tips for solo dining, etc.

I first followed Gary on Instagram because of his hilarious posts as Prince George roasting the royal family. His snarky, sardonic humour is prevalent throughout these essays where he covers all kinds of trips: solo, romantic and with family. I enjoyed the asides he throws in when it comes to driving a point home (like the sound of a fog horn every 2 minutes on a cruise).

I really liked at the end of the book where he includes his favourites from a variety of cities - favourite hotels, coffee shops, restaurants, museums - which I’ll be sure to take note of for future reference. Which actually has inspired me… I always have to think about it to put together a list when friends ask… I should just create my own lists of city faves
