The beginning part had me hooked but towards the middle I started to find it boring, tedious and hard to pick it back up and I almost DNF. The ending was pretty good but I was expecting to want to fly through it like I did with Pretty Girls.

I won’t lie, this book took me a second to understand even with the plot, but I kept powering through because the writing was really good. All the darkness and thrilling moments were so imaginable.

The introduction was gripping, but I found that the book drags in the first half, but picks up again once present day Charlie and Sam meet.   I loved seeing them reconnect.

Charlie and Sam have a chilling and compelling backstory. It was interesting to see their stories divided by their POVs starting from that cataclysmic life-changing event that they remember differently. It was cool to see them become lawyers in their own way, almost as if their present lives became so similar yet different. Also, seeing how they’re Good Daughters to a man who’s seen through society as a bad man was an interesting aspect to the story as well.

All the legal processions were also really intriguing to me.

I had watched the YouTube reviews about this book, that it would take 2 days to read, you wouldn't want to put it down. And I looked at the 500 page novel I had gotten from the library and doubted these claims. Large books sometimes intimidate me, I admit it. I am so damned ADHD that I'm afraid these larger volumes can't hold my attention for this long-by no fault of the author, but by my own brain and lack of wanting to be disciplined and telling myself to push on-in reading, which I always want to be something joyous, a leisurely pleasure.

Well damn. I literally did finish this book in 2 days. And the 500 page monster felt too damn short.

The characters are AMAZING. Truly. Won't go into them because spoilers, but damn. So good. So delightful.

This story was marvelously crafted, and the relationships between the Quinn family members is so striking, true, and heartfelt. They were all well-thought out and really came alive to me. This book was amazing, and you should absolutely read it, because hot damn, this was an amazing book. I was kind of hoping for a thriller, but instead I got more of a criminal drama/mystery, which I ended up being more than happy with.

Read.It.Now.

Every time I read another Karin Slaughter book, I’m reminded that she is my favorite in the thriller world for a reason, and writes leagues above others I’ve read. This story was great, solid character development, intriguing story, thrilling and “unputdownable.” The big reveal felt a little random and out of nowhere, but not bad enough to affect this solid 5 star read- I think I’ll be hard pressed to find a Karin book that isn’t one for me.

Longer story, but kept my interest. Good twists and I liked the ending
