Ah not as good as Pretty Girls. Also reading this one straight after another Karin Slaughter was not a good idea because it felt a little repetitive. Standalone, any Karin Slaughter novel is a treat - just not back to back.

I liked this. Although the book is long, it didn't feel long to me. It was completely character-driven, which doesn't usually bother me, but because of that, there was dialogue where there could have been action, and I think the story wasn't strong enough to rely solely on the characters to tell it. There were times when I wasn't invested in the story and it lost me. I listened to the audiobook and I struggled to differentiate between the two POVs because there were read by the same narrator. Be mindful of content warnings and be advised that, as with all of Slaughter's work, this book is dark.

All I can say is I finished it. But only because I was listening to the audio. Strong start that just got bogged down with too many details and too many side stories (that had very little explanation). After awhile I didn't much care, I just wanted this mess over with. I don't even know why I gave it 2 stars, I guess because the writing was pretty tight and made for some very tense & real situations. I may give Karen Slaughter another try......but that will be another day far from today.
