From the synopsis alone I knew I was walking into a book written by an author with a hyper voice. I am typically turned off by that, but occasionally I give it a chance since otherwise I’d have barely anything to read in this genre.

I feel like the beginning is very strong and charming. The middle sags and drags. And the ending is exhausting.

The only hyper voice that has merit is Nico’s, and Wicky’s, though he’s a minor character. I really like that in spite of Nico’s hyperness, he’s pretty grounded when assessing a situation. His high energy is something he’s aware of and has to work around. I forgot the synopsis says he’s a golden retriever, and while his energy and heart definitely matches, he’s not head-empty, not really. For example, he knows he’s an annoying morning person, so he decides to earn tolerance points by making coffee and breakfast.

Bel and Garen having hyper internal monologuing was fine in the beginning since it was low key. But as the story progressed, there became very little difference between them and Nico, which is a damn shame. There was something charming about the little sprinkle of it before it got overused.

The chemistry between the three is really good and balanced, and the problem comes down to the blue balling. Everything starts to drag near the middle when the biggest conflict is that each of the three idiots are struggling to grasp that polyamory is an option for them. There’s various reasons for it, of course. Garen worries he’s a third wheel to the mage-familiar bond. Bel worries he’s intruding on a preexisting relationship. Nico is in love with both and can’t reconcile that fact. But the same beats keep repeating, and any sort of breakthrough progress is constantly halted by either a character chickening out or there being a sudden interruption.

I have a hard time articulating it, but it kind of feels like as the story progresses I can see the characters getting flanderized in real time (ie core traits become exaggerated to the point of overtaking the rest of the characterization). For this reason I have no desire to continue the series. I got the gist and I don’t need any more.

New teams, funny and so lovely and oblivious

Contains: mage, familiars, spell, new team and some actions, choosen team slow-burn, MMM, No kink.

I loved it!!!
Discover this slow-burn, with characters oblivious to each other's feelings and mysteries to solve. Enter the magical world... I totally recommend it.

**may contains spoilers**

When the mage needs to summon a familiar, he's on the run, afraid that it will refuse like the previous one. What he didn't expect was that Nico would ask his ex-boyfriend to train him. And that's how he met the men in his life.

Despite Nico's adaptation, it's still a new start and a good dose of adrenaline for his over-energetic partner. But will they be able to built this team or will the higher-ups put obstacles in their way?

This was a super fun, light poly romance. I liked all three characters and thought they worked well together. It was a bit insta-love (I think Garen is only there for about a week before he's declaring his love for Bel) but still highly enjoyable. There was some aspects of the world-building that seemed a bit light but I'm assuming there will be more books in this series that will flesh things out.

This is a fun and cute urban fantasy with a poly romance. The three men are likable and distinct enough to have their own voices. Setting has potential for great adventures, already several good side characters were present, and the romance mostly worked.

I enjoy steamy scenes but don't read romances mainly for them. (Though, who am I kidding, if it's MMM, I'm not exactly looking for fade-to-black...) The author really was teasing the reader as well as the poor characters with some extreme cock blocking here.

The struggle was real...
I just couldn't get into this one. The characters were boring and childish, the story was boring and the instalove was too much. I read til 88% and then skimmed the last bit because I just didn't care.
I have loved other work by this author, so not sure why this one didn't work for me (but seems to be a hit with most of my friends).

Lacking action

An enjoyable poly romance with magic and demons.
* second chance romance
* reunited lovers
* poly
* age gap (10 - 15 yrs)
* magic
* a mage and his familiar
* part demon
* grandpa's an actual demon

It took me a while to read. I found the start quite slow going while things were set up but once they set out on missions I spent more time with the book and raced through the second half of the book.

As an aside I wouldn't have picked this up based on the cover alone.
