Girl, this was such a cute little romp. I could have used more magic and less emotional turmoil of the whether they will or wont get together, especially when obviously they were. I think I also enjoy it a little too much when women write queer men. It's not accurate but it is an enjoyable fantasy. Also, did she have to edge us for so long before they finally had sex? That was cruel.

This was a surprisingly sweet start to the series. Bel, who is a nineteen year old demon mage, needs a familiar since the first one he summoned at sixteen, turned out to be a horrible mistake. When Nico, who is bored of his life and missing his ex boyfriend, gets summoned, he takes to being Bel's familiar emotionally, but he doesn't know how to protect him. In comes Garen, who is part of the secret service and knows how to protect someone. The dynamic between Nico and Garen has changed, even though the underlying chemistry is off the charts, and it's all because of both men's attraction to Bel. It's a sweet, sexy read!

4.5 stars

It was an interesting world where magic is in the open and familiars can be many things - cats, sugar gliders, humans, and cell phones to name a few. I really liked how these three came together though they were slightly clueless about each other’s feelings. This cluelessness helped them get to know each other though, without hopping into bed. There is a lot of humour, magic, and adventure. Though they deal with dark things, it wasn’t gory or even scary. It was very lighthearted overall and an enjoyable read. I look forward to more in the series!

This is what happens when a golden retriever falls for two men and he gets to keep them both. Nico has so much energy, Bel is a sweetheart who can be mischievous, and Garen is the responsible adult. I love the dynamic of these three!

3,5-ish. Fun, easy read, but the writing feels quite young. More suitable to YA than NA, which I would definitely categorise this is as. The world-building could (should?) also be expanded upon. Will probably read the next book, though.

The first book in a series (currently three books) which follows Bel Adams, mage, part demon and government employee.

Bel needs a familiar/bodyguard to protect him out in the field, but is leery about looking for one after a bad experience. He lucks out somewhat with Nico, Army Ranger and all-round sweet guy. But that's only the beginning of the story.

Set in a world not that far removed from our own, this medium-burn story has plenty of twists and turns to keep you interested. I loved the humour woven through the whole story, (seriously, Wicky and Nico are a bromance for the ages) and I really liked the dynamic between Bel, Nico and Garen. It's just so nice to have a romance where none of them are arseholes.

I also liked the way the characters were aware of their flaws, but the others saw them as a positive, not a flaw. That was sweet.

(Also, if I got hold of a light sabre in real life you can betcha I'd be doing lightsabre noises. God knows I do it with rolls of wrapping paper and golf umbellas).

There was, however, enough left unresolved that I think will bleed over into the next book, which is not far down my list to get to.
