Garcia wrote these stories at the end of his literary career in his nineties, and the experience and genius shows through and through. These are a few stories taking place in a separate city in Europe, where Garcia has travelled in his lifetime. Many are magical realism genre, but that is not what intrigued me. It was the style of writing, almost every story had a terrible twist in the story, and though the content was disturbing to an extent, one could not avoid reading them due to the beautiful lyrical prose and Garcia's trademark grip on the tale.

Estuvo muy bueno, aunque no me impactó tanto como esperaba. Los relatos si estuvieron geniales y los giros en la trama me dejaron bastante sorprendido.

This may be one of my favorite books of all time because I'm such a sucker for mysterious and intriguing short stories. I adore some of the characters from each story. PLUS, there's always a twist revealed (sometimes expected one) in each of the endings that got me stunned especially the lady that was busy preparing for her death. I got so happy finishing this book. What a blast!
I've really come to like short stories but I find that there are differences in the quality. There are usually a couple in the bunch that I could pass on and a couple that I love. This collection was similar except that I didn't really love any. Some were meh and the rest were good (but not great). I am thinking that I should have stopped at 100 Years of Solitude with this author.
My favorite 2 were "Maria dos Prazeres" and "Miss Forbes's Summer of Happiness"

È sempre un piacere leggere Gabo. In generale, forse, questo non è un titolo molto rappresentativo, forse nemmeno tra i migliori, da quel che leggo qua e là in giro. Però rimane una buona raccolta, che mi ha saputo tenere compagnia mentre sognavo l'estate dei Caraibi. Un grazie a Carmine per la pazienza :)
