this needed a stronger edit earlier in the process. It was a combination of memoir, nonfiction explainer, and college freshman essay that just didn’t work. I liked a lot of it and I’m happy for this author—the early section on how Christian nationalists view nonbelievers (and queer people, and democrats…) as genuine threats to god’s favor was compelling. But they needed to spend more time figuring out who the audience was.

I was absolutely spellbound by this book. It is incredibly well organized and presented with personal anecdote as well as research. I couldn’t help but be inspired by the author’s introspection and amazing efforts. Ajoy narrates her own audiobook, and while she talks fast at points, her passion and self-deprecating style make this a book you just can’t stop listening to. I was sad to see it end.
