I related with a lot of different things April mentioned growing up in an Evangelical household. I’m grateful for deconstruction and being in a setting now that encourages curiosity.

Great insight as we all untangle patriotism from faith, reflect on the American imperialism, colonization and watch something nefarious unfold within our “free country”. April was well researched, witty and nuanced and I enjoyed reading her personal narratives as well as her summary.
God bless America?! I feel like we need it. 😅

This is a book everyone should read. Especially if you grew up in the evangelical church, or attended a Christian school. There was so much familiar within the pages of this book, so much that I used to believe when I was growing up. If you think this book might be tough to read, or you think you don’t need this book, I promise you do.
Christian Nationalism has been hiding in plain sight for longer than I’ve been alive. It has extremely deep roots in the United States, and it is very powerful. It is quietly dangerous. It has become spectacularly louder in the past few years, and all of the reasons why are laid out in this book. Between stories of her own life as an evangelical pastor’s daughter and former Christian Nationalist, April Ajoy breaks down in plain language how Christian Nationalism infiltrated so much of our political system, and the dangers it poses. It was concise, detailed, and hit every point well. I think this is one of the most important books to look to in this second trump presidency, as most of his actions are motivated by the deeply held Christian Nationalist beliefs of those around him, and the danger that poses.
