This was an absolute slog for me to get through. I loved the first book and was so disappointed to find that Declan and Rose's story was dropped, because I felt there was so much more to tell with them starting their new life together. I don't like love stories that end as soon as they get together.
I like William as a character, but no one else interested me and I couldn't keep track of everyone. It felt like it went on forever and it just bored me. I also like more romance, and in this one, the romance was practically a side note. I would have quit reading early on, but I heard that the 3rd book is good, so I thought I should keep up with what happened in this world. I should have just found a synopsis, though, because I wasn't able to pay attention that well anyway.

A family feud gets upgraded to a thrilling full-scale war between good and evil.
I really needed a reread because I did not remember much of this book. It is the same Edge we were introduced to in the first book, and yet, it's not. This time around, we experience a different part of this in-between world and a completely different set of circumstances. Cerise's family was interesting and brave, and stepped up when they were needed.
William and Cerise started out as an uneasy alliance, who then came to rely on each other more and more. Their relationship developed slowly, until it was impossible to think of one without the other. They were both clever and capable of making quick decisions, even in dire conditions. William's animal side made multiple appearances and his struggle to contain it so that he didn't scare Cerise off was worrying and endearing at the same time.
This world was rich in diversity of scenery, characters, and magical abilities. Some of the bad guys were not so cut-and-dried, and neither were some of the good guys. These people were flawed and for the most part just desperate to survive. They did not shy away from violence. It is definitely best to read these books in order so as not to miss any crucial world building.

William, a wolf changeling, is living in The Edge when his former country's government asks him to destroy The Hand, a very bad group from another country.
Cerise lives in the Mire, swampland in The Edge. When her parents go missing, she discovers that they are being held by The Hand and that an enemy family is involved.
Not a bad continuation of this series, but William and Cerise never really grabbed me as main characters. It was a decent story though, and I really liked seeing some of the characters from the last book.

Original 5 Stars.
Re-read 4.5 Stars.
I took off half as there were moments at the end that were over the top, un-needed drama, and extreme solutions that were predictable.
Also the un-killable villain, terminator eat your heart out.
It's still one of one favourites, and now I own it and re-read to my hearts content.
