I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first and the only reason for that is William. I've come to realise that I adore a broken male lead. I like the possessive "your mine" and the sweet innocence that comes from a truly messed up person.

Great stuff. I still think paranormal romance has too much too do, and the romance would be better spread over a few books, but I liked the hero and heroine. And I enjoyed the cousins, who I think are leads in upcoming books.

Uh. I liked the first one in this series a lot. But I thought that this was like a typical series where it followed the same characters. So I was totally unprepared. There was a lot of gore in this book that I could have totally done without. The whole family dynamic irritated the hell out of me. I didn't care for how Cerise was totally kick ass on her way back home, but once she got there, she turned kinda girly and boring in regards to William. So, yeah. Not sure if I'll attempt the next one.

Serious page turner. Action, adventure, and creepy magic everywhere. Heavy on the heteronormativity (and this from a book with the possibility of interspecies breeding), alas, but otherwise fantastic.

This was the first book of Andrews that I read and I have since read all of her books. This book we have William who is a changeling. a great character who because he isn't all human has some quirks.

This book is DARK; way darker then I thought it would be. Listening to the villains view point as he’s threatening a woman he beat black and blue was hard for me. Just overall the book is much darker and bloodier then the previous ones. There’s a lot of death of characters we get to know a little. The storyline was ok. The Mar family was quirky and odd which I enjoyed. The ending of the book however left me a little whiplashed. There was just so much information dump all at once. All of the pieces coming together but it almost felt forced. Hard to explain. It just wasn’t smooth to me. There were a couple of times I had to reread a section to make sure I was following the plot line and I rarely have that problem. Then there was the big battle ***SPOILERS*** the family is cut down during this fight. I mean they talk about how many adults are left standing and that most are hurt but absolutely no details. We don’t know who survives or what problems they have. It’s like the fight happened and that was the end of the family storyline. Yes it talks about them leaving the Mire but that it’s. It was so odd. I mean this whole book is saturated with the Mar family just to leave it unfinished. Definitely not my favorite book by this author.

This felt a little like reading a remake of Rose and Declan's story, just in a new setting, but that didn't keep it from being entertaining.

I enjoyed this SO much more than the first book. The characters were full and compelling, I loved the swamp magic, and the story was well-paced. I am bummed out that it kind of ended the same way the first one did, removed from the setting of the rest of the book, which felt really unbelievable with how close Cerise was to her family, but I enjoyed the rest of it.

While at first I missed Rose and Declan, I quickly grew to enjoy Cerise and William's story and all the fascinating characters and creatures from the Mire. Much like the Kate Daniels series, the author duo does dialogue well, making the relationships between the characters less sickly sweet than in standard romances.
