So this was A LOT better than her most recent releases. Overall I read it quickly and some parts were entertaining.
Unpopular opinion: I liked Marcella a lot. She is different from her usual female characters. She's spoiled, but also smart and strong. I was surprised by how long it took them to break her. I also liked how she used her physical appearance "against" Maddox. Which brings me to the real unpopular opinion apparently... I didn't like Maddox and not because he kidnapped her, but because was lacking of that appeal that usually H need to have in romance. And let's talk about how his nickname is "mad dog" when he's just a whiny chihuahua. Marcella deserved a more interesting LI in my opinion.
And since this is a romance book I was disappointed by how poorly it was developed, but whatever. So yeah, entertaining but it was also lacking in chemistry and emotion between the main characters.
Marcella Vitiello was worth it though and she's the only Vitiello I can stand.

*ARC received for an honest review*
By Sin I Rise: Part 1 is the first book in the second generation series, Sins of the Fathers. This book was surprisingly good. Tbh I went into it without any expectations but did enjoy the book n I wasn't disappointed. This was really a decent start to the series.
THIS WAS PURE MARCELLA & THE VITIELLOS SUPREMACY.
Marcella Vitiello. My baby n spoiled princess. She just ruled this book from the starting until the end. She was born as the elder daughter of the Capo of New York Famiglia n privileged. But there wasn't any instance where she was a brat nor acted like the usual rich kids who thinks they are above everyone else. She was really fierce n strong n held her head high n didn't let anyone walk over her. She really was her Father's daughter. When she was taken away by the MC gang, she didn't let any of them break her, she stood her ground n fought until the end. I feel really bad for everything she went through in their hands. I didn't expect that.
Maddox 'Mad Dog' White. Ah that man was a really a let down for me. He felt so flat n didn't have the same strength as the other leading men of this world. He was like a side character in his own book. And everytime he opened his mouth, he made me laugh. And let's not forget the amount of times he said the word 'cream', the way I cringed everytime he said that. I did feel bad for what happened to him in his childhood. And I liked how he was protective of Marci even tho she was the enemy. He did get better towards the end. And I hope he redeem himself in the next part.
Marci & Maddox really did have an amazing connection. And the way Marci took comfort in him even when he was the reason she was in that situation. And he was OBSESSED with her. And when he gotto know her, he made it his mission to protect her n was willing to give up his revenge in order to save her. But their romance was really disappointing. It was so rushed like one moment they were hating each other n in the next they were thinking of not living without eo. I felt a little more more development was required but other than that they had a really good chemistry & I hope we say a more development of them as a couple in next book.
The Vitiellos just rocked this whole book. Luca, my man. He just proved why he is one of the best Capo. And the lengths he would go to protect his family. I loved his relationship with Marci. They were the perfect Father-Daughter duo. He was literally a dilf.

I was given the ARC for By Sin I Rise part one in exchange for an honest review.
First of all I want to thank Cora for making Marci not be a doormat!! She was beautifully written and executed perfectly!
I think that the book was written pretty well personally. From showing how Marci was with the Giovanni guy and how she didn't like that he was too scared of Luca to even want to touch her

I was so excited to get approved of an ARC of this but I wasn't aware before starting this that this was part 1 of a duet. That may put some people off, especially because as of this time I'm not sure when part two is coming out. But that aside I was really excited to be back with The Family despite my own tumultuous relationship with the Marcella's mother. Now you might think I'm ragging on this book and I'm not. Far from it. I enjoyed it a whole lot. I really am looking forward to getting more of the connection between Marcella and Maddox and I wanna know how they can get past everything they've been through. Marcella is exactly the kind of Mafia princess I expected her to be as the daughter of Aria and Luca and Maddox really was a surprise. I can't wait to see where this goes. I volunteered to read and review an early copy of this. All opinions are my own.

Not going to lie, I was scared of this one going in. But at the same time, I was excited to read it. It turned out to be completely different from what I expected. It means both good and bad. There are some things that I liked about it and that is Marcella's character. I loved her. She is definitely a strong character and the redeeming factor IMO. But there are things I had some issues with. I don't know if I had such high expectations on Maddox or what, but I don't think he redeemed himself enough at the end of it. And as much I like how their relationship happens, it's just was not believable enough because of how they get there in the first place, with him as her captor.
Then there's Luca and Aria part of the story. I just think Cora really wants to highlight Luca's superiority when it's Maddox's story. It feels like Maddox is actually worshipping the grounds Luca walks on with how much he thinks Luca's more powerful than him when he's the supposed enemy. Isn't he supposed to be the Mad Dog? For me, he wasn't crazy enough to be called that. I just wished Maddox wasn't overshadowed by Luca. And that Maddox is different than any other Cora's previous characters and made him more superior.
