I liked the main hero/heroine from the start, but found most of the supporting cast really off-putting, including the heroine’s friends. The heroine’s parents were meant to be awful but I felt it was overdone.
(Mariel’s mother is so narcissistic, cruel, and lacking in empathy that her sudden redemption arc is totally unbelievable.)
The plot was interesting and fun. I found it refreshing that once the hero/heroine got together, they tended to resolve conflict quickly and work things out with discussion. I look forward to reading more stories set in the vibrant supernatural world the author has set out in this book!

I was really enjoying this up until ~3/4 of the way through. I liked the setting and the banter between the MCs, and I love an earnest man, especially when he’s also very confused. That said, I think it took a while to get to the real conflict of the story and when it did get there everything happened pretty quickly. It was also pretty insta-lovey, which I don’t particularly like. Overall though, I had a good time reading it.

i really liked the main characters and the story overall and the fantasy elements were very nice. i didn't like the way mariel's family was borderline crazy. i get that you want some personal development and a backstory but it was not humoristic and just way too over the top. and the stupid 3rd act breakup/miscommunication was put in there too. it didn't fit the story and development of that characters at all. and I don't know if this is supposed to be a ya book but if so, there is a lot of sexualt content for such a genre...

Loved the fantasy elements but I don't think I was in the mood for a romance
Forced proximity and annoyances to lovers tho 👀

I've tried countless times to get into this genre of light-fantasy romance novels, (like The Ex-Hex, The very secret society of witches etc.) but I usually struggle with them.

This one was a happy exception. I loved the characters, the writing was great and I found some moments hilarious. The magical elements didn't overshadow the romance, but were still a huge part of the plot. Overall, a really enjoyable read.
