GREAT book - for a kid trying to psych themselves up for any big "bravery" step, even if it's not the diving board. And what a great, supportive Dad - giving a couple opportunities to step back, offering advice... well done!
Literally the only quibble I have with this book is Jabari holding his nose as he hits the water. I never let any of my swim lesson kids hold their noses! :-p

I really liked the message of this story, that it's okay to have anxiety and there are ways of managing it, but I really so appreciated that this was a story about a child of color. Representation matters.
A fun picture book about turning feeling scared into enjoying surprises.
Oh my! THE perfect read aloud for facing fears and taking risks. Character development and suspense is done so well that the children clapped and cheered when Jabari jumped.
adventurous
really enjoyed reading this one aloud. fun places to emphasis! conquering fears! lovely illustrations and black mc as well :)
This book is just about a kid who jumps into the pool. Nothing special about it. I don't know what the hype is about. It's not worth the price you pay for it.
Its ok to try things that scare you. I love the dad in the book who is ok with Jabari doing what feels like the right thing.

This was very cute- and as someone who is maybe still terrified of jumping off of a diving board, I thought it was really well-done and relate-able. It's nice to see picture books with caring dad characters, too.
A really nice story about overcoming fear-of-doing-a-thing. We'll see if it helps my own afraid-of-jumping-in-the-water four-year-old. But a very relatable topic, nonetheless.
Three years later, this remains a staple re-read in our house. It’s now being used to help a different almost-four-year-old conquer swimming fears. And after so many rereads, I’m adding another star, because it has not yet lost its luster.
