positiv:

Seeing that this is a book meant for a young audience is crazy. Having Hitler be this caring, and giving person took me completely out of the story because it was hard to discount the reality. Even outside of the depiction of Hitler, I wasn’t invested in the main character and his storyline.

Reading some of the reviews, I can understand why some people have been very critical of this book: its fictionalisation of Hitler, including a description of the dog loving man underneath the monster; Pieter taking notes at a meeting to discuss the erection of Auschwitz-Birkenau (which I have visited more than once) etc.

But I do love historical novels where fictional characters interact with real people. This is no exception: Hitler, Eva Braun, Himmler, Goering, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor etc. The bottom line is, it's a cracking story.
