I really liked the first part of the book that historically traces how we have led our lives and how we have managed to think that the way we view work, our time and money as natural. Especially coming to terms that the concept of work that we have today isn't and will never be natural to humans.
I think the recommendations were a little basic and only applicable with a large amount of priviledge, which is why I gave it three stars, and in general it felt like it just scraped the surface, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless.

LOTS of history and a challenging read for at least the first half due to the history lesson.
Still recommend. Listen to the audio book if you're not really into history. There is good info here and a good breakdown of how to unhook from our toxic work culture.

Nie wniosła niczego do mojego życia, jednak uważam, że to dobra książka na początek z rozwojem osobistym.
Dla mnie była zbyt banalna, ale wyciągnęłam z niej dwie ciekawe idee.
No cóż... szału nie ma...

I really appreciate it how this book took an initial look at the history behind how we ended up being such a work focus culture. Of course, every time I hear the name, Ford or Reagan I think about how failed we were at stopping these wicked men from influencing our culture for forever. One of the things that I didn’t like about the book, was how it was geared towards individuals who clearly worked more office space jobs. As someone who works in healthcare, I found it hard to relate to the idea of taking work home. Though I know that some who work in healthcare do take work home, the majority of individuals who are working with patients stop working with patient after they leave the hospital. One of the best parts was the ending, where she excellently summarized the ideas behind doing nothing, remaining idol, socializing with those who love, and really being intentional about why you decide to do the work that you do.

This book was good. I wouldn't write home about it, but it's good. It makes a great case for taking a chill pill and being bored occasionally. Most of this is well trodden but the author does a great job promoting the ethos.

Had some really good advise and lines to remember, but overall somewhat repetitive. Absolutely worth it for workaholics/ those who are always busy (if you can get past the slight redundancy).
This is something we all know, but I keep falling into that same trap we all do--that if we are not busy we are somehow lazy. It's almost shameful that we feel like we need permission to rest. Leisure and play are vital to humans.
This book was eye opening because while I recognize many of the things she mentions in the book, understanding them is something else entirely.
I really enjoyed the book. It was well-written, well-researched, and a really relaxing read. Highly recommend.
