I picked this up to attend a pop up book group with the author. The first chapter, which was apparently a magazine article about her relationship with a con man was good and entertaining. I enjoyed the next few chapters, but I was bored by the end as this turned into a book about how to solve a problem I do not have. I have not been duped (apparently being a world class introvert somewhat isolates me from the possibility), so all the research and studies were not too relevant to my life. That said, it is a quick read, and the author is apparently a world class extrovert, so I am looking forward to Zooming with her and hearing more about her life.

Interesting topic, but I found the book very boring. There was not a lot of insight, or even interesting stories.

50% interesting, 50% redundant. I felt like the parts of each chapter that delved into the science of deception and trust were incredibly repetitive. The personal stories were interesting.

If you've ever been duped or you are currently single. Read this.

A look at why some people create double lives and dupe those they supposedly love and care about.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Abby Ellin was duped in her personal life by her fiance, and it caused her to look into the sociology and science of lying. I found it very interesting, but I have to admit, I wanted to hear more about her personal story. I found the subject very interesting and impressive that she was able to turn personal grief into professional success.

I was expecting this book to be an emotional, personal memoir but it wasn't close to what I expected. It jumped around too much for me and felt disjointed. It didn't delve deep enough into the topics to satisfy my curiosity.
