3.75 stars. I read this book on the recommendation of [b:Beyond Heaving Bosoms: The Smart Bitches' Guide to Romance Novels|5660117|Beyond Heaving Bosoms The Smart Bitches' Guide to Romance Novels|Sarah Wendell|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1347498083s/5660117.jpg|5831642]. The intelligent, practical heroine and ultra-alpha hero hit my historical romance sweet spot. I've kind of outgrown this genre, but back in the day I would have loved this.
maybe this book ends up being good but i know myself the questionable meet cute / origin of their relationship would drive me insane throughout the book. i prefer my couples to have a consensual relationship lol.
I have found myself in a historical rut as of late, this book was a good way to be in a rut. I think I am going to like Stephanie Laurens, the two books I've read of hers aren't just long stories ending in a fairytale wedding. I think this is a romance trap that can get quite annoying. I like to hear what happens after the wedding! I've been told that the Cyster series goes downhill from here but I liked the characters so much that I'm gonna wait and see. The nicknames of the cousins were quite clever and intriguing. I'm looking forward to A Rake's Vow.
THIS WAS SO GOOD!! Honestly, I guessed the villain right away but I didn't really care cuz honoria and devil were just so entertaining and watching their relationship blossom was AMAZING!!!
DNF. I might come back to this and try again someday, but right now, I just can't get into it. it started great, I thought it was gonna be amazing. sadly it lost that somehow as the pages slowly ticked by. meh. the reviews don't sound too promising. so, time to say goodbye for now.
Have you ever read love scenes so long, you have to give up, throw in a book mark, and just continue at a later date? There are quite a few of those in this book. There's also a mystery...in which you know the villain almost immediately... However, I grew to like the Cynster clan, and I'm curious as to what will happen with the rest of them. After reading the other reviews though, it doesn't sound like the stories vary too much.
This book didn't work for me.
While the writing itself was good, I wasn't a fan of the murder-mystery aspect. This mystery took up a bunch of the story that could have instead been used to better build up the characters. Our main character Honoria was fine, but I wasn't a fan of Devil or the relationship between the two of them.
This book has a solid premise, but the execution was done poorly.
Rating: 1.5/5 stars
