i can see why this is considered a "hot girls" read. feels like reading someone's note app tho (in a good way). made me want to live in LA even more.

Incredibly witty and smartly written. Loved the feeling Babitz captured throughout the whole book and it made me feel nostalgic over a time (even though I wasn’t  even born then). I also really enjoyed the feminist touch ~ that even though Eve herself reduces women to looks and popularity at times, you could read her feminist views between the lines through her way of expressing herself in her writing. Her language is incredibly powerful!

eve is that hot girl at a party taking mental notes on everyone and then making her way to the bathroom to write them down on her notes app. i really like her bc of that, maybe bc i see some of myself in her.

these work as vignettes of la in the 60-70s, where she's constantly analysing every single aspect of everyone and everything with funny, witty and dry observations.

the truth is, even though it's a good time, she knows how fleeting, how empty, how fast the company is. and sometimes, rightfully irritated by it:
"Being places alone makes you think. Being there with someone makes you hounded by details, like what time the other person wants to leave. Details that drain energy when you're trying to discover the core of an event."

this felt like catching up on years of gossip with a very close friend. live, laugh, love eve babitz xx

Full of clear-eyed social satire. It evokes LA for those who have lived in LA at a certain time like few other novels I’ve read.
