I'm not surprised that I loved this book, because I always enjoy reading Matthew Lippman's poems! This particular volume flowed beautifully, was as usual full of fire and love and questioning — these poems' tone is comforting, building confidence, and yet so unusual in their punch. There's softness here AND toughness. My favorites from this volume are "King Stuff," "How Lucky We Have Been In Being Stupid," "Slowly In Prayer," and "One Big Immigrant One Big Immigration." "How We Become Our Fathers" made me cry.
