I was a big fan of the Crank series as a young teen, and it helped me through a really rough period of my life. I was excited to try some of Hopkins' adult work now that I'm actually a semi-adult. My low-ish rating isn't because of her writing style necessarily. I'm not a big fan of poetry unless it's in narrative form, but I enjoyed this. My low rating is because I read this ~530 page book for the one character. You could not pay me to feel anything but disdain for Holly. I'm sorry her marriage was failing because she was unsatisfied, but I didn't feel bad for her at all. Andrea was just kind of... there. She's kind of bland, which I guess is realistic, but she didn't have any aspects I truly could invest myself in. I was expecting more of a way that her and Marissa and Holly came together, but Andrea was just the bridge between them, and the worlds never really intersected at all. Marissa is my girl though. I felt so much love for her, and I powered through the book for her. Her sections are the only places I felt emotions towards the characters. Overall, solid book, but I just didn't love the characters beyond Marissa and her immediate family.
