I enjoyed this book a lot but I think it could have done a lot more with its premise. It just didn't feel different enough from its source material. The addition of the "fairy-tale chat room" made it extra confusing. Do traditional fairy-tales not exist in this world? The author changed a few things to make it modern day but kept the enchantress, magic mirror and the beast looking like a literal beast. They changed the reason why Lindy was there a bit: her father broke into Kyle's apartment and Kyle decides to blackmail him into making Lindy stay with her.

It isn't even Lindy's idea!

The writing in this book is pretty sophomoric. A lot of telling vs. showing. Kyle's character is way over the top before and after his transformation. Lindy barely gets any character at all besides "likes to read" and "never played in the snow before." *Which btw how? She grew up in NYC, right?*

Despite all of those things, I did find myself enjoying the novel and it was a pretty fast read. Mildly-recommended for teens who like paranormal romance or fairy-tale re-tellings. Or watch the movie? It isn't better but that's another option.

I love everything dealing with fairy tales, and this did not disappoint. Told from the Beast's perspective this book was a wonderfully fresh take on my favorite story.

Oh my goodness!!! This book was amazing and absolutely stunning! It grabbed me straight from the beginning and never let go. Beauty and the Beast is my all time favorite fairytale and this was an epically awesome re-telling of a much loved classic. Fantastic job Alex Flinn!!!!

je m'attendais à pas grand-chose mais j'ai été très surprise, c'était vraiment cool

One of the Best Books of All Time. Alex Flinn completely won me over, which is saying something since I really didn't like her after Breaking Point. This book though? It rocks. Modern fairy tales are awesome. :D

I'm usually not one to go for a "romance" novel, but I enjoyed this book. It was a fun read and I loved watching Kyle, a rich, spoiled, selfish, plain nasty kid, turn into someone you'd actually want to hang out with.

However, I think I preferred the movie version, where Kyle/Adrian's transformation manifests itself in the form of black squiggles and 3D tattoo-type marks instead of a wholesale shape-shift. I also liked it better in the movie how Kyle/Adrian and Linda are older (by about two years) and Linda staying at his house is for her protection (as opposed to her father just offering her up).

I also didn't like how Kyle "does it" with his first girlfriend in the beginning. The two of them are like 14/15. Nor was I overly thrilled by how Kyle seems to obsess over girls and the things he does with them. Then of course, there was his rather disturbing tendency of spying on naked girls and couples in intimate situations. So maybe he's a boy and an emotionally-abused one at that, but I still.....urgh. Anyway...

Nonetheless, I finished this book in about 4 hours, so I guess that's proof it's good right there. But I think I was thinking of the movie as I read it and I don't think I would have liked it so much if I hadn't seen the film adaptation first.

This was fun, interesting take on the Beauty and the Beast tale with heavy influences from the the Disney version. I enjoyed the secondary characters a great deal and also the Beast's narration.

Generally, this was a pretty dumb book that adapts a little too literally the beauty and the beast fairy tale. However, there were moments that gave the reader real depth of emotion--expressing the shittiness of having shitty parents; and showing how loneliness eats at a person until they're doing and thinking piteous and desperate things. Overall, though, don't bother.

Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite fairytale. And so I was glad to come across a re-telling of this classic story. It was very simply written, since the author's target audience are the young adults. I wasn't expecting much from it really, I mean I already know the ending. But the emotions were so beautifully written that it made me cry! and i never cry! This is one good read, now i'm ready to watch the movie!
