4.5 stars. I read this compelling book with an increasing sense of dread, because I know how Claudius' live ends. This is so good-I voraciously read while wanting the read to last longer!
Graves is amazingly well researched, and once I decided I didn't need to remember every name and battle mentioned, I enjoyed everything a lot more. I can't even believe some of the antics these peeps get into! And all true!
I recommend this book to those interested in ancient Roman history, especially that along a linear narrative, and not as a textbook. Especially, if you appreciate I, Claudius, you'll enjoy this wrap-up.

Honestly, this whole book could have been an epilogue of the first one.
A great follow-up to I Claudius. Not quite as good as the original but not at all a dud. Had the classic Claudius, with him seeing things from a particular perspective and being underestimated by others. I enjoyed him grappling with being emperor and all that entails.
