This definitely reminds me of While You Were Sleeping, which as a kid I liked, but I don’t think it’s getting a rewatch anytime soon. I had such a hard time finishing this book. I definitely felt the ick with the manipulation, lack of consent and the characters just weren’t likeable. I was bummed not to like this because I really enjoyed The Rehearsals.

I went into this thinking it was a romance and I was pleasantly surprised! I enjoyed the ways the characters subverted trope expectations, and the ways Layla pushes herself to grow.
I just wish that we didn’t focus so much on Laylas internal thoughts and she told her siblings to stop lightly bullying her, or that we got to see her talk to Matt and Ian’s mother about what she saw between them!!! This book could have focused more on the relationships that each of the main characters clearly cared about

More detailed review to come

This was cute and reminded me a ton of the movie While You Were Sleeping (I think it was maybe supposed to be inspired by it?) but the movie is such a favorite of mine and this one fell short. It was a nice book but A) I felt like there wasn't enough to drive Layla and Ian apart and B) the romance with the brother, Matt, took way too long to develop that I didn't really have any feelings towards him.

Loved the concept, fairly poor execution, didn't care at all about the theater and the play.

Protagonist too self destructive, it was stressing me out
