This was not the perspective from which to tell this story. I felt like we saw and knew so little of what her son struggled with, and it was all about the mother’s worries. There should have been more of a balance so I could connect to her worries more.

On one hand, I do appreciate this book about loving those with mental illness and finding space to grieve and care for ourselves. On the other, I’m not sure how I feel about us getting to know some of the more intimate details about Frank’s son Zach, who’s psychotic break and continued psychosis is explored in this memoir.

In this book Tanya Frank recounts the last chunk of her life dealing with her son’s continued mental illness. We see a breakdown of self as she throws all she is into the care of her son, the strains these health issues cause on families, and finally the rebuilding of life that Frank must do as she works to find an equilibrium with her son’s new state.

There’s a really thoughtful exploration of modern medicine and health science inside the layers of pain and grief Frank brings to the fractured back and forth history of her son’s struggle with psychosis.

Well written.

I like reading books about Schizophrenia because it is very fascinating to me, but this book wasn't one of my favorites.  It was a mom's experience with her son having it, but there is a lot of rumination on the mother's part, which I get because it is her story, but I just felt like the book was lacking in more about Schizophrenia.  The book Hidden Valley Road I thought was a lot more compelling and I learned a lot more about Schizophrenia.   That book was more of an investigative book and that is probably why I liked it more.  I listened to this book and I thought that it was a good listen.  It was heartbreaking and kind of a downer of a book.
