SPEECHLESS!
I don’t even know how to write this review! I don’t want to give anything away because truly you need to read this to understand the emotions this one brings out.
Is it hot? Yes! Oh yes it is.
Is it well written? It’s fabulously written…so that’s a yes!
Theo Black is a man who you just want to love on and at the same time kick in the shins because he makes you mad! Chloe is sweet and honestly you’re gonna love her! Izzy could easily be your best friend! The one who gets you and at the same time you wanna punch!
This is not your normal cookie cutter white picket fence ending. Warning it will gut you but it will also make you smile. I cried ugly sad tears and then smiled because this ending was perfect
So many freaking characters to love. I can’t even explain. Just go out and buy this book.

Quick Summary: A forbidden love romance
My Review: Dear Mr. Black by Shanora Williams was a first read experience for this reader. This particular story was about a young woman and the father of her best friend. Just from those words alone, one can imagine what this forbidden romance was all about. I can pretty much summarize this book by saying that it dealt with a taboo issue and that it brought together two people who had to deal with broken pasts.
Strangely, the story that was presented had multiple layers. It wasn't so cut and dried. It wasn't about an old guy scratching an itch or a young woman having a sugar daddy. It dealt with death, loss, mourning, grief, security and comfort, relationships in the real, parenting, marriage and fidelity, deteriorating health (degenerative diagnosis) finding personal happiness, and more. All of that was packed into this book.
The story isn't one that I would normally gravitate toward. I was drawn to it, quite frankly, because a fellow Goodreads friend commented on the author and I randomly chose one of her books to read. I was curious about her writing style and her approach to character storylines. This little keg of dynamite blew my mind, particularly regarding atypical relationships and their outcomes, as well as HEAs.
Without giving away too much, I need to say that the admissions that ultimately came out in this book were shocking. If the signs were there before, then something should have been said. (When you read, you will understand my meaning.) The author's shock and awe approach to character confessions was totally inevitable, even as it was both incredibly raw and expectedly unexpected.
My Final Say: Readers who enjoy stories that are not wrapped up neatly with a bow will like Dear Mr. Black. This story will definitely cause readers to think about life, loss, and love in a different way. This book will also cause readers to consider what they think is appropriate...or inappropriate.

DNF- Opening sentence “I was twelve years old when I met the Blacks.”
I’m not big fan of age gaps and/or forbidden love. Not rating because I will not be reading. That sentence alone is enough to unsettle me.

Unfortunately, this was terrible. It must have been Shanora's earliest piece of work. I honestly didn't see any reason why the two leads had any sort of connection with one another. I didn't feel the chemistry either. I really did not like the audiobook narrator. But even if I did read this book, I think I still wouldn't have liked it. It was honestly too fucking long lol. I ended up skipping a few chapters and felt as if I missed nothing. Theo came across as particularly selfish and Chloe was rightfully immature as shit. I also hated the amount of negative rhetoric about her mother and her parent's relationship. If I'm correct, her Dad also wasn't fucking around. So why is it okay for her to basically be a martyr for her sick dad and trash on her mother...just I hate books where we listen to teenagers who have no idea about their parent's relationship bitch and spew hate about one of the two parents, especially the female figure. It just gives anti-feminist vibes lol. As a mother, I hate that shit. It also just didn't add shit to the story. The mom could have been dead and basically, we would have had the same story. I don't really care to know how these two progress and end up together in book two.
The smut was mediocre, the chemistry was lacking and honestly I'm happy with the ending. I didn't think those two should be together.
4 Hott and forbidden stars. Those who like to push boundaries and can go in with a open mind. This one is for you! I can say this story is something I've fantasied about! #yourdadcallsmebaby

There is just something about the FMC. Maybe it is the audiobook version? Or maybe it is truly how she is written but I just don’t like it. Just a feeling that I can’t kick. The whole time I was listening I was just… irritated with her.

I really loved this book. I really wanted it to end different for Chloe and Theo, but I guess this is the way it had to be. Though there love seemed to be forbidden it was the truest love. I haven't cried at a book in a long while but that last scene on the boat really ripped at my heart. Thank you for such a heart warming and emotional at times story.

The epilogue was epic! Miss Williams warns us at the beginning that this is not fairy tale HEA romance. And I love the ending she gives us for Chloe and Theo.
I do not want to read the second book because I know it will ruin me. I just want to picture them happy as they were meant to be. Loving someone meaning letting them go.
This book is why I love Miss Williams for a while now. Her books are always have this fobidden aspect but she makes it more twisted/ complicated than what it seems.
What a perfect book to close my balmy weekend.

Let’s start off by saying, this is not your typical romance novel! If you want a perfect H and h HEA, do not read it. This is not going to give that to you.
Theo and Chloe’s love is messy, it is real and it is gut wrenching. They have happiness, love and security with one another. The problem, she’s his daughters best friend. This taboo story line of forbidden love and age gap romance held onto my soul and did not let it go.
This book was so captivating, I felt the emotions behind their love as if I was one of them. This book does have HEAs, just not conventional ones. They both find something else that brings them happiness, but realize it cannot be each other. I really hope you will give this book a try because it truly deserves it.
- I knew his love for me would always live in his heart, just as my love for him would. It would never change, and it would never fade. -
