I'm really big into true crime and when I seen this book at B&N I didn't recognize the guys name at all so I immediately was intrigued. The story itself is sad (OBVIOUSLY) and made me cringe at times but Ann Rule's immaculate writing and retelling of true crimes never ceases to amaze me.

Ann Rule writes true crime like you're reading a thrilling mystery novel, but all of it is horrifyingly true. This follows the crimes of serial killer Jerry Brudos (aka the "Lust Killer"/"Shoe Fetish Killer") and man I really wanted to punch this guy by the end of it. Ann Rule, much like Becky Cooper or Michelle McNamara, is fantastic at dropping you into the world, lives, and families of the victims. She colors in these women's lives so that it is all the more tragic when they disappear or all the more exciting when one or two lucky ones escape. The psychology of this man is fascinating and there were quite a few open questions in his backstory/upbringing that made me wonder if anything happened in his childhood that the public was never aware of. Fast-paced, quick read that will leave you angry and chilled to the bone.

It today's world were the good guys are not always cops, it was nice to read a book about truly good cops who's relentless attention to detail got the bad guy off the street. It was a quick read, very sad, but good.
