I have loved this book. I listened to it and especially loved it as it was brought to life through the brilliant reading of it by Adjoa Andoh (who played Lady Danbury in Bridgerton).
Abi Dare has created characters who feel real and believable and in whom I became completely invested. We travelled alongside Adunni through her most painful and difficult times and were grateful for the influence of some astonishing women. Adunni is part child, part woman, often naive, sometimes very wise but always with a resolve and determination to achieve her dreams.
I absolutely loved the language Abi Dare has used - simple, rich, visual and descriptive - it allowed us to see the world though Adunni’s very lovely eyes.
