So the cover whore in me snagged this book for the cover but I mean look at it, like wow. But, let me tell you, the story inside was absolutely everything. It delivered a message about double standards and objectification but it was done in a way that wasn’t so in your face. It was also so much more than that. Danielle Allen did a phenomenal job with the way she wrote this book. Carlos and Akila were two strong and ambitious individuals who definitely weren’t looking for love. But, man these two had that undeniable chemistry and the tension was palpable. They tried to fight it, but it was all for naught because they were it for each other. They had a story that was sexy, provocative and witty. It had a realism to it in the way these two had to address their issues when it came to their coupledom. It was one I just loved from start to finish. I couldn’t get enough of these two which made it impossible for me to want to put this book down.

Passionate...
I enjoyed this story... The passion between Akila and Carlos was palpable. While I like that Akila was focused and principled I was ready to get violent with her for my boy Carlos!!! I was honestly torn by this story. It spoke to my real life sensibilities but my sense of romance was conflicted. That conflict was a testament to the great story that Danielle told. Flawed and layered characters that were relatable, plus grey sweatpants and hot sex!!! Awesome sauce 😍.

This book was really cute in so many ways, but I’m still a bit unsure about the role of race in the story. While I’m pretty certain the main characters are black, the main focus of the book is gender and sexism, which is totally cool, except there were a few situations where I felt race was pertinent.
During a confrontation with a white man, the comments he made about her were mostly sexist, but definitely inspired by feelings of racism too. The dynamic is hard to ignore and I kind of wish there was more recognition of that.
At the same time, POC deserve stories that aren’t centered around their race and this was a beautiful example of that. I really enjoyed this and look forward to more from Danielle Allen!

Good lawd this was a great story! The story of how theses "new" dudes think and how they peddle that toxic mindset to those guys who are less sure of themselves. Carlos was the exception, of said attitude toward women and although it took him a while being "trash adjacent", he did get it. Akila, was the voice of many young women need while trying to date and navigate in this new dating game. Can't wait for Cuffing Season

I've been waiting for this book for awhile and I was NOT disappointed. Let me start off by saying I know I wasn't the only one attracted to this because of the cover lol. Going into this I wasn't expecting the feels I would get from this read. I don't think I've ever rooted for a couple like I did Akila and Carlos. The chemistry between the two was off the charts. Akila was a strong woman who EVERYTHING and more! When I say everything I mean, she was a strong heroine who was 100% true to herself and wasn't afraid to tackle things head-on. Danielle Allen didn't disappoint with Carlos the hero was swoon worthy. Like Akila, Carlos stood 100% behind his beliefs, was protective over those he cared about and dedicated to his craft.
The objectification of women has been around for ages, but its become increasingly popular as social media gets more popular. What I loved about this read was the topic it covered and the way Danielle Allen went about it. The fact that the heroine was a strong feminist who wasn't afraid to fight for the cause made me love her even more. I would most definitely recommend this book!!!!

Loved it!!!
I loved Akila! Her personality was shown effortlessly as the author guided us through her emotions! Carlos was a bit of a mystery! I really enjoyed this book and the themes it explored.
