Eye-opening! Hopefully there will be books like this with more focus on women of colour!
Gorgeous illustrations, lushly printed on thick paper with a heavy hard cover. Each short essay on an important woman is only one page, so it's a good introduction to each person. There are one or two uses of profanity, so just FYI.
The illustrations are beautiful but the book is way too US-centred for me.
I wish there were more women from other countries and continents.

I really like this book! I thought the art was great and the little summaries did a great job telling each women's history.
The only problem I had was that it wasn't diverse enough. Like it may seem it was but as I kept reading it over and over again I started to put the book in categories. Let me explain.
Women in politics/advocates
Women in media
Women in art
Basically three categories. The majority of African Women were only in the politics/advocates category while white women were in all three. I think the only African woman that was in media was Oprah and Billie Holiday while there was Tina Fey, Joan Jett, Medona, Dolly Parton and many other media influencers. I saw only one Hispanic woman- and one Indian woman.
I feel like if you're gonna do these types of books, at least do a little more research so you won't end up with one Hispanic singer. Where's Frida Kahlo???
I'm just saying... could have been more diverse.

An inspiring and entertaining compilation of some truly bada** women throughout history
A wonderful book about some wonderfully bad women. I very much enjoyed this book and learned so much from it. There were lots of women I've never heard of in this book and I am so happy I got to learn a little bit about each of them. The only downside of this book? Wishing it was longer so I could know more great women!
This is a beautiful book full of illustrations of incredible women and their stories, which most of us didn't learn about in History lessons. Shen does a brilliant job of picking a diverse list of influential women, even if the list is slightly US centric, including women from around the world as well as different races, religions and sexuality, not to mention the first publicly transgender woman in the US. There is also a lovely range of women from different backgrounds writers, politicians, actors, scientists the list goes on.
As well as the information in the essays accompanying each woman, Shen offers a comprehensive bibliography encouraging us to pursue more than just the introduction she offers. However, as a starting point Shen offers a wonderful insight into some of the world's greatest women.
