This book was fabulous!! Nicole Bailey's writing style is the most marvelous thing I have read in a while, I felt immersed in the experience which was such a shock especially as this story is such a short one. Lira is an intriguing character and the way she interacts with other characters in her story is one to watch. Overall, this beautiful fantasy is such an interesting a gorgeous read.

I would rate this 3.5 stars if I could, but I'll settle on 3. While I was engaged throughout and I liked the world building (although similar to many other fae tales), I didn't buy into the characters very much and I wish they were more fleshed out/relationships not rushed.

Plot:
The Seelie prince stole Prasanna’s prince’s zevar, a magical stone that allows faes to focus and channel their powers, Sai and his group of fae mercenaries are tasked with infiltrating the Seelie palace and retrieving their prince’s zevar. On the road, they met Lira, a young siren who is desperate to escape from her mother, and they decide to all work together temporarily since Lira’s magic could help them during their mission, and Lira will need money to be able to escape far away from her mother’s reach.

This book has a one bed and heist tropes, non-binary representation, multiple POVs and more.

I definitely want to read the next book and I hope Sai and Lira take their time to build a solid foundation and have the slow burn I would have wanted in this book.

I wanted the main female character (Lira) to have more about her - she is a powerful siren so I want her to act like it!
I enjoyed the heist vibe of the book and the different POVs, all the characters are pretty great apart from Lira not being the strong FMC I wanted - maybe this is to come.
There is a bit of spice but I think I would prefer this to be a YA and hold off on the spice.
The last part of the book was so well paced and full of action leaving me wanting more - I will be continuing the series for sure! I need more Lennox in my life!
Thank you to NetGalley for the E- ARC.
This is my honest view of the book

A sweet and fun read with a great ending and wonderful LGBTQIAP+ representation. I was interested in the storyline and background from the start. Sirens are a fantasy element that I never tire of, and this telling wove in magic, fae, secrets, and kingdoms perfectly. The band of characters were endearing and pretty well crafted- I especially enjoyed Lux, Neia, and Sai- and the unraveling of the motives behind each of the characters kept me reading (After all, I finished the book in two nights).

Lira did annoy me slightly, but that may just be a personal preference towards more fierce female leads and a frustration with female protagonists that demonstrate naivety. To her credit, by the end of the book she began to regain some long lost independence and stand up for herself, so that gives me high hopes for her character for book 2. And honestly, it allowed a good enemies-to-lovers trope set-up between her and Sai that I know I will just live for. (Huge bonus that they're clearly fated mates-bring on the tension).

The ending was chef's kiss leaving it pretty impossible to not pine for the next book- a surprising reveal and ultimatum all in just a few pages.

Thank you to the Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review. I enjoyed it and will definitely recommend!

4.5 stars rounded up. 0.5/5 on the spice scale. This book was fun, fast paced and queer fantasy romance.

"You're a lioness who's been raised to believe she's a kitten"

Lira is a siren who was raised in the human lands. She returns to her siren trope lead by her mother and doesn't like the way they handle things. She resents being a siren and just wants to run away to go back and live with the humans again. In the process of running away she comes across a group of theives who are all fae. When they discover that Lira is a Siren they decide to enlist her help with a big job. Lira will get a big enough payout to get her where ever she wants to go so she agrees.

I loved this book so much and I can't wait to read book 2 to see where this story goes from here. *Warning this book does end on a cliffhanger*

Fans of ACOTAR and Heist trope step forward.

The book begins with a decision that Lira absolutely has to make, she wants to escape from her mother's cruelty and from what she wants to impose on her: find a man to charm, have a daughter and then kill him.
This is how mermaids behave, but not our protagonist, she believes in a more balanced world and absolutely wants to get away from magic.
For this reason, when by chance she spots a thief in the crowd of the court where she is, she doesn't think twice about offering him a deal, to be accompanied to the nearest city in exchange for something.
And this is how Lira's journey begins but not in the way she imagines, the thief whose name is Sai, has a job proposal for her.
Aid him and his squad on a suicide mission to rescue the prince of the unseelie court -or rather the court of the Prasanna- and the reward may keep Lira living longer in anonymity than she could ever hope for.
But you know, things don't always go as planned and between a new world to discover, monsters, plot twists, a romantic attraction, a group of friends and a heist to carry out, Lira will discover things about herself and her world she never imagined.
But who can she really trust?

This was pretty interesting! I really enjoyed the representation included in this, and it was written in a way that was just very natural which I like. I will say the first part of the book was a little slow, but it sped up a bit when it got to the actual like,, plot point. I also really liked Lennox as a character, I wish there was more of him. Overall this was decent!

Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC.

To be honest, it took me almost a half of the book to get into the story, but once I did, I devoured it in a few hours. The worldbuilding is still a bit confusing, but I loved the variety of magical creatures in the story. I really liked that the plot included the heist. I wish the main heroine Lira was less passive, though I understand that her time to shine should come in the second installment of the story. As to MMC, Sai, I have mixed feelings about him, I just hope Lira will make him grovel long enough for forgiveness. Though the connection between them seemed palpable, I'm not a fan of its insta-lovey nature, at the beginning it felt too rushed, not convincing enough. In spite of it all, I'm quite curious to learn what will happen next. 3.5/5

Again a book that surprised me.
This was both a fast and easy read.
I enjoyed the story and it felt unique.
There is some spice but it’s not that descriptive.
