Just hilarious, the man cannot write a bad book. I think this is the first book he wrote, it's just as full of incredibly clever wordplay and hijinks as all of his others. You don't have to like fishing or hunting to find him funny. The covers to his books, of course, fall into the "so bad they're good" category.

Good Ole fashioned humor. I'd say "But Where's the Park, Papa?"and "How to Fish a Crick" were my favorites.

Bangers front to back. If you’ve ever spent time in the woods camping during your adolescence this is going to resonate with you. McManus has absolutely perfected short form humor stories.

One of the funniest books I've ever read and it often had me laughing out loud. A must if you like outdoorsy things like hiking, camping, fishing, etc. From the first page: "Young people just now starting out in camping probably have no idea that it wasn’t but a couple of decades ago that people went camping expecting to be miserable. Half the fun of camping in those days was looking forward to getting back home. When you did get back home you prolonged the enjoyment of your trip by telling all your friends how miserable you had been. The more you talked about the miseries of life in the woods, the more you wanted to get back out there and start suffering again. Camping was a fine and pleasant misery."
I'm not really an outdoorsy person. I've never gone hunting and I've only fished a handful of times in my life. So it might seem unusual that I would ever pick up a book like this. I have a brother who was into hunting though and he would read us the stories written in Field & Stream magazine. So in that way I discovered Bill Heavey's writing and then went from there to reading this book by Patrick McManus. This book was definitely laugh out loud funny. If you passed over this book because you're not an outdoors, hunting, fishing type then I'd encourage you to give it a try anyway. You may be pleasantly surprised by how funny you find it.
