Tolkien wraps up his epic fantasy tale in this 3rd volume of The Lord of the Rings.  I always forget how each volume is broken down into two books.  And how each book deals with an entire arc like the battle of Gondor or returning the Ring to Mt Doom separately.  

Another thing that always blows my mind is how early into book 6 the ring is destroyed!  By chapter 3 it's gone!  

The return to the Shire is long and winding.  But the changes seen there are profound, war effects everyone, not just those in the thick of the battle. 

The appendices were ok, the highlight being the Arwen & Aragorn section. 

Again, Andy Serkis absolutely kills it in the audiobook narration. He performs each character!  Seeming to me to channel the actors who brought the roles to life in the Peter Jackson films.  Highly recommend.
