I'm just sad to be done with the arc - this was such a weird and cool duology! Kingfisher has an excellent way of world-building without ever making you notice it; it's absolutely effortless and immersive, and so rich. I'll be coming back to these two again and again.

Excellent characters in a fascinating universe. Strongly reminiscent of Bujold’s Chalion books.
The presence of a character weak enough to bargain with a demon but yet noble enough to offer his own death as a battle tactic was extremely annoying.

I liked the romance and story overall but the pace was slow and there were times I skimmed it

So sweet and funny at times but the signature T Kingfisher dark moments to balance it out. The climax of the story felt a little anticlimactic but the character work again was amazing and nuanced. I love Crazy Slate and the gnoles and even Stupid Caliban.
