This book is a masterpiece of contemporary/near historical fiction. The characters feel like they really were fixtures of the 70s music scene. The world of the book felt amazingly grounded in reality. Using the point of view of a journalist writing a history for the novel's voice was genius and worked perfectly for the story she meant to tell.

Listening to the audiobook was an added bonus, as it was read by a full cast of actors! It really helped bring it to life.

Without saying much about the plot, the voice of this novel, and the book-in-a-book's protagonist, were the perfect mixture of likeable heroes that you want root for and multidimensional, flawed humans.

This hit all the marks for me.

This was a very good read - the author did a wonderful job weaving together fictional artists and people with real ones. More than a few times I had to remind myself not to google events in the book - I wanted to hear the songs see the infamous photograph and watch the concerts described. Really good- I’d absolutely recommend this one.

I liked this alright! I liked the interview style it was told in — and I loved that the audiobook had a full cast. It really brought the characters to life. I liked that it spanned decades and we got to see Opal & Nev from the beginning all the way through to the end. I really enjoyed the social, cultural, and political commentaries that weaves throughout the book. It made it all feel very real. I had to regularly remind myself this was a fiction novel!
