Based on a lot of other reviews, it's obvious that a disturbing (but not surprising) number of people are really bothered by a talented woman thinking her life - her artistic practice, her childhood, her friends, her professional path, her relationship to place - is worth documenting. Criticizing a memoir for being "solipsistic" is...really something. Anyway, this book is beautiful, absorbing, and gorgeously written, and it's refreshing to read about a person fully and unapologetically leading an unconventional life, engaging with darkness while living in the light.

A beautifully written & touching memoir about a lot of things: travel, writing, finding compassion for oneself. It is beautiful on a human level & as a writer, I related to so much. On a craft level, I will go back & study it. A great book!

Really enjoyed this book by Jami Attenberg, who I have been a big fan of since reading The Middlesteins. I was fascinated by her life and learning more about her process.

I haven't ever participated in Jamie Attenberg’s #1000wordsofsummer but I devoured her book about living in the world as a writer and finding our home, literally and figuratively.

It doesn't say a lot, but it's beautifully written.
