I read this book when I was twelve years old. I decided to read this again this year as I’m interested in reading the next books in the series. I also feel like I need to carry on with this series to see what happens next. Plus, I loved the other books in this series so of course I wanted to read the next one in the series.
This book still follows Greg Heffley, who we’ve following for the last eight books. In this book, it shows the joys of a family road trip. The journey starts off full of promises, then after several wrong turns which includes gas station bathrooms, crazed seagulls, a fender bender and a runaway pig -Greg wants to go home. Even the worst road trip can turn into an adventure, and this is one the Heffleys won’t soon forget. Will they be able to enjoy the trip? Will Greg be able to enjoy his summer?
My favourite bit of this book is Manny and the pig. How quickly they become friends and the friendship they have. Manny is so mischievous in this book, even though he’s asleep for half of it. He reminds me of my younger brother who can sleep anywhere but is also planning so many pranks and tricks.
It was funny and an easy read. I sort of related to this book first time due to me being in a big family and I’ve done family holidays and even though they can be fun they can also be stressful. Some of the things Greg did in this book made me cringe at the fact that I’ve done them as well. This novel is an easy read, and I would recommend it to children looking for something to read. I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

well now i want to watch the movie cause this was so funny
Hilarious, as usual. The story was pretty ridiculous -- it was just one insane mishap after another -- but it was entertaining. I think Manny really shines in this book -- you really see how he's a lot smarter than everyone thinks he is. In fact, he's probably smarter than the adults in his family. I loved that he won a pig, and that the pig "imprinted" on him. I missed Fregley and Rowley in this book, but hopefully they'll be in the next one.
I started reading this last night before I went to bed and all of a sudden I finished it and it was after midnight lol

Possibly one of the worst books to come out of Jeff Kinney’s award winning series, “Diary of a Wimpy kid” This books tells a story about the main character, Greg, and a family vacation he goes on. The books overused jokes and humor really make the read quite boring. After reading a few chapters i already want to punch Greg in the face, his very high ego is brought out alot in this book. Am i giving this a bad review becasue of the god awful trash bag of a movie that this book was made into? maybe. but does that excuse the initial trashness of the book, no. #notmyrodrick
