Not a bad read. It got a bit far fetched and a tad confusing near the end as if the writer needed to finish it quickly.

This thriller follows Emilia Ward, a bestselling detective novelist, as she faces real-life events that eerily mirror scenes from her own books. When a shocking incident matches a plot point from her unpublished manuscript, Emilia realizes someone close to her might be using her fiction against her, making her fear for her family’s safety.

One of the best things about this book is how unpredictable it is. I usually guess who "did it" early on, but this time I was completely surprised. Every character feels like a possible suspect, but also not, which keeps you on edge the whole time. The author does a great job making you feel just like Emilia—worried, frustrated, and powerless as things spiral out of control.

There are multiple points of view, which can get a little confusing, and there are a lot of details to keep track of. Sometimes it feels a bit overwhelming, but overall, it’s still a solid read. If you enjoy thrillers that keep you guessing, this one’s worth picking up.

I have to admit that I struggled with The Woman Who Lied. I didn't find any of the characters likeable, I think because they were all written as suspicious, it kept them at arms length. Even Emilia, she seemed like an unreliable narrator, and I couldn't fully sympathise.

I also feel like there are some plot holes or loose threads that were built up and then flittered out.

Some of the action was off page and with characters unfamiliar to us, which I think emphasised the feeling of this book being unresolved in a couple of ways.

This was so twisty, but nothing felt so crazy that it wasn't realistic. I did predict a few twists, but usually they were followed with something that I literally never saw coming so it balanced out. I did kinda guess the end, but the build-up to it definitely threw me off of it.

I really like how "normal" Amelia and her family were. I feel like in a lot of thrillers, even ones with similar general ideas, the main character or family are either deeply unhappy or their lives just aren't actually realistic. The family actually liking and respecting each other made this feel so much better than some others where it's "I'm married but I hate my husband and/or my kids and/or my job".

Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the advanced copy of this book!

Thank you Netgalley and Penguin Random House

This was an enjoyable read. I loved all the characters and felt they were well developed. Emilia's house sounds stunning. My only negative is that there are a couple of twists to many which drags the story out too much at the end.

The beginning is very unnerving as Emilia a successful author plots start occurring in her real life. It turns out that it can be only one of her closest friends or family que lots of tension as Emilia starts accusing everyone around her desperate to protect her family no matter the cost of her relationships. The books within the book were very good and did not detract from the main story, they helped ramp up the fear as you could see them come to life in Emilia's
