After the chaos that was the ball, Noe and Vanitas are introduced to Ruthven, who it seems has a connection albeit not an amicable one with Noe's teacher. I'm looking forward to seeing how that will play out in later volumes. I get the feeling there's something not quite right about Ruthven, particularly the way he is about Luca. It creeps me out.

I spent a lot of the volume giggling at Noe and Vanitas, they're like an old married couple. Neither wants the other to get hurt but they're not going to admit they're being nice. It's so sweet and fun to read. I'd like to ship them together but they seem to have their own love interests going on. Vanitas with Jeanne, whom he is pursuing relentlessly and he knows her secret about craving blood. Then, Noe and Dominique, that one is a little more tentative I think.

We were also introduced to The Chasseurs, the anti-vampire legion who believe Noe is forcing Vanitas to work with him and the Vampire of the Blue Moon. They're like the ultimate emotional cinnamon role group with no sense but a lot of brawn. They're a ridiculous delight to see.

I've thought this since the first volume but the world is just so rich and well crafted. There's different worlds, layers and everything. Even the character backstories and hierarchies are amazingly detailed.

I love this series.

Did it take a bit of romance and some cleaner animation for me to love this manga? Yes

And man is all of that worth it! Seriously, the way Jeanne & Vanitas showcase their love is really precious. Then you have the added humor to the series to alleviate some of the dark drama. It's just yes.

Things are getting hotter, WHO THE F IS VANITAS FOR F SAKE????
