terrible, i both loved and hated it. Has just about every sensitive topic in it so take that into mind if you ever decide to pick it up. i only wish it was better written, if it was it would probably be more (in)famous and popular.

This book is written like the author grabbed at every edgy and gross concept they could to try to make the reader uncomfortable, but failed and instead was extremely predictable.

I only picked up this book because I am not easily bothered by books. Reading it was not pleasant and made me feel physically ill. I forced myself to finish it and now am bothered whenever I see a cow. It is original and I've never read anything like it though.

As disgusting as promised. Hated reading every minute but couldn't look away for a second. Disappointed that I might never find another book that does quite what this one does.

This book sets out to be depraved and disgusting and it definitely does that. Not really any development, and was bad enough I had to step away from the book to gag multiple times. Not for the faint of heart!

Oh boy.

How does one even rate something like this? I can't rate it in a scale of how much I enjoyed it because, well. I can't say I had a good time. I had A time, for sure. I had to put down my kindle from time to time because I was gaging, do with that what you will.

This book is disgusting, vile, ugly and shocking. That's what it set out to do, and it was sucessful in its endeavour to disturb, and that's the basis of my rating. Consider me disturbed.

At its core, Steven is a deeply disfunctional individual in the middle of a deeply disfunctional environment. The world of Cows is one of extremes. Nothing is left in mild terms.

And it'll haunt me for a very long time.

Whoever recommended this one in the Reddit post about disturbing books, you were right and also fuck you.

TW: murder; coprophagia; coprophilia; blood; bestiality; rape; grossness in general; animal cruelty; animal death; very explicit sex scenes; gore; violence; torture; abortion (by extreme measures); toxic relationships; domestic abuse.

The only novel that's ever made me feel sick was actually one of Tim Powers's. But this one didn't do badly, assuming the reader likes being made sick (and not in the manner of Dorothy Parker's 'Tonstant Weader Fwowed Up' which may have to do with the unreleased 'Christopher Robin Finds a Chainsaw'.) I dont think the author is barking but his characters certainly are (or mooing, possibly). If meat is murder, is murder meat?
Or as Black Daniel sing, "I love you but don't touch me 'cos you're sick." Which is pretty much the theme of the entire book.

Not as good as the same author's "High Life," which feels more like it's supposed to be really happening while in "Cows" a lot of it is might be in the narrator's head. I'd equate this book to Chandler Morrison's "Dead Inside" which is a vileness he has spent the rest of his (so far brief) career trying to get past, like a cow in an alleyway.

The book is depraved and monstrous. Not for the faint of heart. It will make you gag and want to throw up.
