While I'm still relatively new to reading dark romance or just reading in general, I can confidently say this is one of my favourite books and will remain a favourite.

If you're reading this review i'm going to assume you have a basic understanding of the book because let's be honest here... what dark romance readers haven't heard of Haunting Adeline? Exactly

When I went into this book i'd tried not to research it on booktok as I wanted the book experience without a swayed opinion. This is something I highly recommend doing as it allowed me to enjoy the true content of the book without knowing any spoilers and I think it just made it that little bit better. Admittedly any spoilers put onto TikTok would probably be removed due to inappropriate content so there isn't really much you can research on this book, but anyway, don't.

Yes Zade may be a little effed up, however I still can't help falling in love with him... and I sort of wouldn't mind having my own sexy stalker to throw my life into the air... is that bad? Probably, but hey if you're reading this then you probably got something a little loose up there too so you can't really judge me.

The only true warning I can give is, even if you're into dark erotic scenes, some parts of this book do get deathly dark *literally*. Me and my sister very much read the same books however we have an ever so slightly different reaction to gruesome details and this is one I know she would not enjoy. So please understand the sheer depth of what you are about to read. It is graphic and it is very easy to visualise.

One piece of information I do need to give on Hunting Adeline is that it is substantially darker and sad reading the... situation?... thats going on. If you do plan on reading Hunting Adeline I strongly suggest you read the duet back to back with as little break in-between as possible, it makes the second book slightly less dark, not much, but slightly.

Overall this book was fabulous and I really did enjoy reading it, especially chapter 30 ;).
I've recommended it to numerous friends even though I think that's a slightly cruel thing to do but I really hope more people can love this book how I did.

If you've made it to the end of this review, do send me a friend request as I love connecting with people who are just as mentally messed as me.

"Let me know which stars you prefer. The ones above you, or the ones I make you see. When you make someone fall in love with the darkest parts of you, there's nothing you can do that will scare them away."

Wow, this is far from what I was expecting when it comes to this read. Adeline is a famous author who has just moved into her recently deceased grandmother's manor. While renovating the house, Addie soon finds red roses in places where they shouldn't be and a dark shadow lurking outside her windows at night... meaning that she has a stalker. After multiple failed attempts for the police to catch him, Addie soon takes things into her own hands and antagonizes her stalker to the point where he comes into her home and puts a gun to her head. After numerous times crossing paths, Addie learns that her stalker, Zade, is a murderous serial killer who goes after sex traffickers. His victims have soon set their sites on his little mouse and the chaos unfolds.....

I knew that this was darker read before I had gotten into it, but I was surprised that there was a more murder-mystery element to it in regards to Addie's great-grandmother's murder. Even though I thought that Adeline was more of a flat character, I really was invested in the plot and the interactions that unfolded between her and Zade. I also liked the alternating perspectives, which was refreshing to see things from both Zade and Addie as they dive deep into their own investigations.

PLEASE make sure you read ALL OF THE TRIGGER WARNINGS before you pick up this book. I can assure you this may not be for everyone. Also make sure to read the disclaimer at the beginning of the book as well. There are a lot of adult themes throughout this book including non-consensual sexual acts (some involving weaponry), very detailed descriptions of gore, murder, torture, pedophilia, and more. (July 2023)

I hate the fact that this book ends on a cliffhanger but I am glad that my friend let me borrow the sequel right away! Happy reading... if you dare ;)

I was not expecting non-con to be between the 2 main characters. I don't like how that's the starting point in their relationship, especially given his job. Feels contradictory to the way his character is built to be, you can't just say yeah he's hypocritical when he haunts himself with the memories of his job daily. I know some people may be into this but I personally really didn't like it.

I am ASHAMED to have enjoyed this book as much as I did. I will have to answer for my sins later, but for now I will give you my review of this dark dark dark (did I mention this is very dark) book.

I will not recommend this book openly to anyone. Please please please know what you are getting into. Read the trigger warnings and then read them again. I have not read anything so graphic in the gore and rape as is in this book. It was not the best writing in the world, but it did scratch an itch - that I am very ashamed to have - and I couldn't put it down (unless I couldn't stomach it anymore for the day). The last 10% is very triggering and you should be of sound mind to get through it.

The romance/smut aspect of this book: the smut is very good (oh god I really am going to hell). My dear dear cousin summed it up beautifully, "if you have ever had a rape fantasy, then you will like this book." I feel like that is a great warning for the spice in this book. THE GUN SCENE!!! Don't read or listen to this in public because damn, I thought I had a good smut in public poker face but I was proved so wrong.

Now I have to decide if I will read the next book, not because the story isn't compelling, but because I have to decide if I want to be the person I will be when I am done with it.

Side note: I will not be discussing any of my feeling about this with anyone who has not read the book since they are my only safe space in this category lol
