Predictable cliche. Nicholas Sparks at his worst.
If you know Nicholas Sparks, you know he is known for his love stories. The Rescue is no different. This book tells about the life of single mother Denise Holton and her son, Kyle. Kyle has issues with speaking and understanding language, and Denise has given up much of her life, including finding love, to devote herself to working with her son. One night Denise and Kyle get into a car accident, and Kyle goes missing until volunteer fireman Taylor McAden comes to the rescue. After that night Denise and Taylor spend months getting to know one another, and Denise admires Taylor's ability to connect with and accept Kyle. But Taylor has issues of his own causing Denise's idea of a "fairy tale" to not be so magical. The pair seem like a match made in heaven, but we are left wondering if Taylor will be able to face his past so he can finally allow himself to love and be loved in return.
I'm ashamed to say it, but it took me three months to read this book. I started it in the middle of spring semester, just as my work load began to get heavier, and I ended up having to put reading for leisure on the back burner. But I also think it took me a while to read because the beginning of the story was a little boring and predictable. As much as I love a love story, it needs to be different to keep my attention. The Rescue was typical, and there wasn't enough conflict between the characters in the book. However, the last several chapters saved it for me. Sparks threw in a lot of twists at the end of the book, and I found myself not being able to stop reading. I'm not going to lie, I was bawling as I read the final chapters.
I've read two other Nicholas Sparks books before this one, which I loved. I don't think The Rescue was as good as the other books. It didn't have that spice that I think is necessary in order to write a successful love story. If I was asked to recommend good books to read, this book would not make the list. But if you're willing to power through a boring beginning for a tear jerking ending, I'd say go for it.

este libro fue el que menos me gustó hasta ahora de los que lei de sparks. es muy aburrido y salvo la forma en que muere el papa de Taylor es muy predecible. no era necesaria la muerte de mitch ni que el bebé se llame como el
I really love this book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I loved all of the characters.
This book broke my heart, made it cry, squeezed it to death, and stitched it all back up with heart-decorated bandaids.

While I love Nicholas Sparks, I did find this book to be quite bland. It was very similar to other books written by him and while I was hoping for more...I should have expected nothing but his usual romance, break-up, sappy, love story. You will find some romance, some suspense, and of course some heartbreak in this novel. There were a few shocking parts, and there were definitely some parts where my heart literally felt like it was breaking...especially towards the end. While it definitely isn't my favorite Nicholas Sparks book, I wouldn't complete veto it either. :)
