I love it when I come across a truly magical reading experience, and this book definitely fits the bill. I loved almost every second of it, and turning each page was a joy. My only regret is that the ending feels incredibly rushed and ends rather abruptly. It doesn't feel so much like the end of a novel as a much longer work being chopped in half. Still, I can't wait for the next installment.

I get why someone else would like this book, but it didn’t grab me and felt more like a chore to read.

I liked this book. I did.

The writing itself is beautiful. Laini Taylor is a skilled and talented writer and I was drawn into the book from the first page. The world Taylor created is rich and has so much potential.

Almost all of the plot takes place in the last 20% of the book, and while the set-up for the events was entertaining, it added very little to the book as a whole. Very much a 'read it for the vibes' kind of book. I wish that the magic system was explained more, but that might be covered in the second book of the duology. I just really want to know more about the gods and the godspawn, so hopefully my questions will be answered.

I also despise insta-love as a trope, and that features heavily in this book.

I love Lazlo as a character and I hope he gets a bit more development in book two, as well as Sarai. They're both very likable characters and I think they have pretty good chemistry.

Here's to hoping I like Muse of Nightmares more!

"How had she gone her entire life without noticing the awkwardness of arms, the way they just hang there from you shoulders like links of meat in a shop window. She crossed them, artlessly she felt like some kind of arm amature."

Magical, romantic and tense.

Excruciatingly slow, but still a good storyline.
