Wow this book was so so good! Unlike the first book in the series, Steel King, Riven Knight really delivered on both fronts the romance plot line and the murder mystery plot line. I am a sucker for a marriage of convenience story and Genevieve and Isaiah’s was no different. I loved the progression of their relationship, how they slowly built trust and supported each other. Genevieve was so kind as she helped Isaiah come to terms with his past. They were a couple you really rooted for. At the same time this book continues with the unresolved murder mystery from Steel King- and boy was it a doozy! I can’t believe we didn’t get answers until the last chapter but it was all worth the wait. I am loving this series and can’t wait to continue on!

The same issue I have with the first book is present in this one. I don’t like how the author paces the book, and does random time jumps throughout. Because then I don’t feel as connected to the MCs. So much happens and nothing happens.

I enjoyed the small moments between Genevieve and Isaiah but there wasn’t many which I personally found annoying.

Also the reveal of the killer really came out of left field and was too fast.  I wish more clues had been sprinkled throughout the first two books because I never would have guessed right.

Sadly this series has me too intrigued so I already have the next book downloaded, but if the pacing is the same… I’ll scream

Sometimes it feels like with the fake relationship trope, everything happens too quickly for 2 people who don’t know each other so I enjoyed slower pace of their relationship. Isiah allowing himself to be vulnerable with her and slowly accepting that he does deserve love Genevieve overcoming her anger to grieve were lovely to read. Some twists in this I didn't anticipate that made it exciting. I'm not sure where the story is going to go from here but I'm looking forward to reading the next one.
