This one was much better than the first book. This one was a little lighter on the romance and heavier on the mystery element. I wish there had been a bit more romance, but the mystery was interesting. I didn't love how the book jumped ahead in time so often, all of a sudden it would jump like 3 months ahead.
I really liked the slow and subtle chemistry between Isaiah and Genevieve. There is nothing insta love about this relationship. In fact, they both fought the connection they had for a good chunk of the story. Both MC's carry so much grief and trauma with them, which explains why they didn't want to get too close to each other. As their relationship slowly grew, they helped each other heal and learn to trust.
I figured out part of Isaiah's big secret pretty early on in the book.
I did not expect
I really liked how Genevieve has finally found her place and a family. I am glad she was able to make that connection with her

Isaiah was safe. No one in the world could make me tell them what had happened at that cabin in the mountains. Because now, I was his wife.
It was the first time in a long, long damn time I’d truly been at ease. She did that . . . She’d made this a safe space. For us both.
Isaiah looked in the mirror and saw everlasting broken pieces, but maybe my broken pieces would fit with his.
If my heart left her breathless, then hers gave me a reason to breathe.
Day by day, I was falling in love with the lie.
🛞 First person dual POV
🛞 Second in a series that can be read as stand alone; there is a through-line that’s easier to follow by reading in order
🛞 Marriage of convenience
🛞 Paralegal / Ex-con
🛞 Boss’ half-sister
🛞 Protective MMC; “Touch her & I’ll kill you”
🛞 Found family
🛞 Genevieve’s mother was murdered, the father she just met has been wrongfully accused of the crime, and V has found herself tied to feuding motorcycle clubs. The lies are adding up and the danger palpable, so she leans on the only person she can trust — the sullen stranger who saved her life — her husband.
🛞 Slow burn 🔥
🛞 MC growth: Trust, risking a relationship, past trauma, grief, communication, self worth, career fulfilment.
🛞 Well established secondary characters: Bryce & Dash (Book 1), Draven, Presley (Book 3), Luke (Book 4), Leo (Book 5), Emmett (Book 6), Jim, Kaine & Piper (Lark Cove 3), Nick & Emmeline (Jamison Valley 2).
