What I liked most about Her Vampire Lord was the maturity and growth of its protagonists. Of course, maturity is a funny word to use with an ages-old vampire like Gaius, but he’s actually stuck, arrested in the aftermath of the death of his vengeful sire and keeper, a demoness who tortured Gaius and his vampire brothers for hundreds of years. He still can’t shake her now that’s she’s dead, either from his dreams or with his absolute resistance to connect with any woman. That is, until he meets Marechal.

I loved how Gaius and Marechal form their own unique bond. While this book is part of the Midnight Doms series focused on Club Toxic, that setting really doesn’t come into play in Her Vampire Lord, and I really liked that. I think it would have been a forced fit with these characters, and I appreciated how Johnson let them evolve in their own way, focused on the vineyards that are their professional world.

I did wonder why Marechal never questioned in her night meetings with Gaius, and there was some awkward language at certain points. But Marechal is someone who’s sublimated her life to care of her family and the family vineyard, so seeing her grow to recognize her own needs was fantastic. Both Marechal and Gaius need to let go of preconceptions, and it makes for a great journey in Her Vampire Lord.

The Midnight Doms Series has been an amazing journey with old and new authors!

Ms. Johnson was a stranger; she is no longer! I can't wait to check out her other novels!

"He’ll bring me to the edge over and over again until he breaks me. Until he makes me his."

What I love most about this series are the strong alpha males, Ms. Johnson thank you for Gaius! Love the leads names!!!

I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
