short story from Galaxy Science Fiction May 1956 - this has been visited by the suck fairy. I presume that I read a review in which someone liked it enough to go searching. The viewpoint character is an arse, reading the story to find out the twist was a chore. I get that there were a lot of ‘scientists are arseholes’ type stories, but this didn’t work for me.
