Japanese gentle beauty.
The book that taught me that it can be enough to persuade one cat to be your cat.
Too heartbreaking to read it again someday.

Beautiful book. One of the first fiction books I've read. So many cute, moving and amazing stories

This was one of the best books I've read in a very long time. It was a beautifully written heart warming tale of a man journeying throughout the Japanese countryside in the hopes of finding a new home for his beloved cat. But beyond that it's a story of human connection and love among friends and pets.

I loved reading Nana's perspective. He was proud, spunky, but despite this fueled by true affection for his Satoru. Satoru was a kind and wonderful man who had grown up and touched the lives of all those who had the pleasure of his acquaintance. I loved reading about how Satoru had grown up and how his friends perceived him and were affected by his presence in their lives.

This is the first book to ever make me cry and I'm not even a cat lover, which is really a testament to how masterfully Hiro Arikawa constructed this tale. The deep bond that Satoru and Nana had was written with subtlety through Nana's voice and Satoru's friend's perspectives. The ending was sad, but very beautiful and I finished the book with that satisfied heart swell of emotion that only happens after reading an amazing book.
