I’m starting to think horror novels aren’t for me. I just don’t get as scared while reading something as I do while watching something. This one certainly had a lot of references that went over my head as well, and the ending was weird, not rushed exactly, but incomplete maybe? I do think me not being hooked on this book is more of a me thing, as I don’t have any specific issues with the writing other than the ending

The main character’s narration was too annoying and hammy for me. We get it, she likes slasher films and she’s not like other girls. I think she was actually done a disservice with the writing because I found myself wanting to really like her but I just couldn’t make it through the book.

Really enjoyed and REALLY loved the main character, Jade. This is for readers okay with spending a lot of time in the main character’s head.

This is the second book I've read by Stephen Graham Jones and I will definitely be reading more. I love the twists and turns and the omg! moments. Jade was a bit of a difficult person to relate to, because she couldn't seem to have any "normal" interactions with people. But maybe she's not a neurotypical person? Even so, I really enjoyed this book.
