A love letter to the horror genre! I picked this book up several times after getting mightily distracted by life, and it was always easy to pick up where I left off. This ode to the genre was full of twists, turns, red herrings, and even a big old twist at the end that I certainly didn't see coming. Jade is a relatable character and despite her insistence of not being a final girl, I found myself absolutely rooting for her to be the last one left. This is the second Stephen Graham Jones book I've read and I've got to tell you: I'm here for him.

DNF @ Page 150.. Really didn't like any characters at all, couldn't follow the story and the writing wasn't for me. Moving on because I have a lot of others I'd rather read

I can see why this book would be very divisive but if you are a fan of horror movies and super unique takes on books, this is one to pick up.

I couldn’t finish this one. It started out pretty scary but the protagonist was so annoying and unrealistic that I had to stop reading. Not a fan.

That 4 stars really should be 3 1/2.
My Heart is a Chainsaw seems to have a lot of love for it and some hate. I fall somewhere in the middle. What I like about the book - all the time spent on slashers, reminding me of my love for them and giving me a few I need to see (Just Before Dawn). A decent story with many twists and some real scares. An interesting setting. I also enjoyed Jade's Slasher 101 papers on slashers and how it brought in parts of the plot.
Now for what I didn't like - I was okay with Jade being the lead character and not being very likable but if the book is in 2nd person please let me see something beyond what jade sees. I'm still a bit confused on what the heck Letha's father was up to for most of the book. The last little bit of the book that was supposed to be meaningful didn't do much for me.
I'll try more from Stephen Graham Jones but I'm hoping he has better.

I was really surprised by how different this book was compared to The Only Good Indians (which I absolutely adored!!). It was such a fun read, especially since I’m also a huge fan of 80s slashers. It was a little less serious than his other book and had such a captivating storyline. I didn’t like the ending as much as I was hoping to, but I’ll definitely be reading the sequel!
