really enjoyed. my knowledge of science fiction texts is limited, but I found this book a quick and interesting read. focused on the narrator, first person, tons of personality there. when I read that the narrator was an AI, I was turned off at first, typically computer language isn't fun to read, but that's a reductive description of the narrator who is part-computer, part-person. The book does reward some existing understanding of science, computers, science fiction, colonialism, buddhism, and space research - but not necessary to enjoy what's going on here. Last third is pretty dark/heavy, and the last tenth feels a bit rushed and tonally contradictory at times, though this may be purposeful. The forward is a must-read, as it is helpful to understand some background and devices employed by Wijeratne, but also his prowess with language, which sometimes can feel hidden behind the narrator's voice.
