Couldn’t really get into it and surprisingly didn’t like Nathan Fillion.

As a big fan of sci-fi and speculative fiction, and as someone who once wrote his college senior thesis in free verse poetry, I am thrilled to give this book 5 stars. If you love the genre of sci-fi that blends speculative fiction and far future space travel, then I'd definitely recommend this book.

In the beginning there are a lot of similarities to the Murderbot series (which is a very good thing) but as opposed to a machine trying to understand human, it's a human becoming a machine, trying to understand much more than itself. But that's really where the similarities end.

I don't know how to say much else about the book without spoiling the ending, except that hearing Nathan Fillion narrate the audio book is well worth it.

I was ready to drop this by the 30% mark, but then skimmed ahead a bit and ended up finishing it. I really didn't like any of the characters, and most felt pretty flat. There was so much potential for madness, but it really didn't come across half as well as i would've liked. I was also somewhat disappointed with the conclusion being somewhat tame (in comparison to something like blindsight).

Overall, this was an ok with alright exploration, flat characters and a very mild 'wtf-factor'.

I was disappointed how the book slowly developed then quickly changed directions. The last half of the book just skimming over major events that were impacting the human race. There were two different stores packed into one book. Sorry I just don’t get how everyone loves this story.

This was just rough for me to get through. I even tried the audiobook narration by Nathan Fillion (who I think is amazing) and I just didn’t enjoy it that much. The concept sounded good, but the writing style is what bothered me.
